Our Story – From Little Buck to MountainTack

A Lifetime of Horses, Hard Work, and Friendships

By Lisa Borg, Owner of MountainTack.com

My love of horses began when I was a young girl with my very first horse, a registered buckskin Shetland pony named Little Buck.

I certainly didn't know it then, but that little pony would be the beginning of a lifelong passion that would eventually turn into a business, a career, and friendships that have lasted for decades.

And believe it or not, the whole business started with dog blankets!

An Unexpected Beginning

Many years ago, I was selling full-size horse blankets and dog blankets for a local manufacturer. When that manufacturer closed its doors, I took some of the dog blankets to Equine Affaire.

Something unexpected happened. Miniature horse owners discovered that the larger dog blankets fit their little horses!

I immediately recognized an opportunity.

At the time, finding good-quality tack and equipment specifically designed for miniature horses wasn't always easy. I already had relationships with manufacturers who made products for full-size horses, so I approached them about making miniature horse products exclusively for me.

They were willing to work with me, and before long, we had developed an entire line of exclusive Minitack products.

What started with a few blankets was quickly becoming something much bigger.

And somewhere along the way, I became a miniature horse owner myself. Within six months, I had six minis, and it wasn't long before the babies started arriving.

I was hooked!

Building Minitack.com from the Ground Up

Minitack.com started in our home. As the business grew, we moved the operation into a mobile home and eventually added ocean shipping containers to serve as warehouses.

It certainly wasn't fancy, but it worked!

We continued expanding our product selection, working with manufacturers to develop products designed specifically for miniature horses and ponies.

I wasn't just selling products. I was using them, learning about them, raising horses, and becoming involved in the same world as my customers.

Over the years, Minitack.com grew into a business I was incredibly proud of. But just as important as the products were the relationships I was building along the way.

Many customers became friends, and some of those friendships have lasted for decades.

A Meeting at Equine Affaire That Changed Everything

One of my favorite stories happened the year after I first discovered the miniature horse market.

I was back at Equine Affaire when an Amish harness maker named Mose Miller approached me.

He told me he had heard that I was trustworthy and a good businessperson, and he wanted to make harnesses for me.

There was just one little problem.

I knew absolutely nothing about harnesses!

Mose told me he would teach me.

And he did.

That conversation was the beginning of a business relationship that has continued for approximately 30 years.

To this day, I'm still working with Mose Miller and offering his beautiful Amish-made harnesses through MountainTack.com.

When I think about what has made this business special, relationships like that are at the top of the list.

Trust, honesty, and doing what you say you're going to do have always meant a great deal to me.

The State Line Tack Years

After more than 25 years of building Minitack.com, I made the decision to sell the business to State Line Tack.

Although I was no longer the owner of Minitack, I continued working in the equine industry through State Line Tack and TABcom.

My role eventually expanded well beyond miniature horse products.

I became responsible for developing and managing promotional agreements and partnerships with equine clubs and organizations, with a special emphasis on 4-H.

These programs included special member discounts, fundraising opportunities, and sponsorships.

Working with 4-H was especially meaningful to me.

Having started my own love of horses as a young girl with Little Buck, I understood how important it is to give young people opportunities to become involved with horses.

Horses teach responsibility, patience, hard work, and so many other lessons that stay with us throughout our lives.

It was rewarding to work with organizations that helped encourage the next generation of horse lovers.

Those years also gave me the opportunity to develop even more friendships and connections throughout the equine industry.

A New Chapter — MountainTack.com

In April 2026, I decided it was time to leave State Line Tack and devote my attention to my own business, MountainTack.com.

After all these years, I still enjoy finding great products, working with manufacturers, and helping customers find exactly what they need.

And I especially enjoy the personal side of running a business.

MountainTack.com is a continuation of everything I've learned and loved about the horse industry over the past three decades.

While miniature horses and ponies will always have a special place in my heart, MountainTack serves a much broader community today.

We offer products for miniature horses, ponies, full-size horses, draft horses, donkeys, mules, and dogs.

Personalized halters, quality harnesses, blankets, tack, and leather goods are among our specialties.

I'm also fortunate that many of the manufacturers and suppliers I began working with during the early Minitack years are still part of my business today.

That kind of history and experience is something you simply can't replace.

Still a Horse Girl at Heart

More than 55 years after Little Buck came into my life, horses are still a huge part of who I am.

I have owned miniature horses and ponies ever since those first six minis came into my life, and I'm still actively involved in showing them today.

I still love the excitement of the show ring, the anticipation of a new foal, and the friendships that come from being part of the horse community.

Some things never change!

When I look back, it's amazing to think that a few dog blankets at Equine Affaire started a journey that would last more than 30 years.

From working out of our home to a mobile home with shipping containers for warehouses, from developing exclusive miniature horse products to building long-lasting relationships with people like Mose Miller, it has been quite an adventure.

There have been changes along the way, but one thing has remained constant.

My love of horses and my appreciation for the people who share that love.

Thank You for Being Part of My Story

One of the greatest rewards of being in this business for so many years has been the people I've met.

Many of my customers have become lifelong friends. Some have been with me since the earliest days of Minitack.com, and I can't begin to tell you how much that loyalty and friendship mean to me.

For those of you who have followed me from Minitack to State Line Tack and now MountainTack.com, thank you for continuing the journey with me.

And if you're just discovering MountainTack, welcome!

I believe in offering quality products, fair prices, honest information, and the kind of personal customer service that has always been important to me.

The business names may have changed over the years, but the person behind them hasn't.

I'm still that horse-loving girl who started out with a buckskin Shetland pony named Little Buck.

And I'm still excited about what comes next.

Thank you for being part of my story!
